Church History from our Deacon Emeritus Jessie L. Corbitt

BY THE GRACE OF GOD:
59 YEARS AND COUNTING

A Historical Look

The Church Structure

March 1962, was the beginning of the organization of the church at the home of Sis. Laverne and Bro. Harvey Rivers, 521 Canon Street, Daytona Beach, Florida, under the leadership of Rev. Joseph James Jenkins. The church derived its name from Sis. Maude P. Kirksey.

After the church was organized at the home, Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, located on Rose Street and pastored by the Rev. Leroy Baker, granted the group privilege to have services there on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.

On the lot purchased by The Willing Workers Club, stood an old wood frame house which was cleared out by Rev. R. R. Nobles. This frame house became The New St. James Missionary Baptist Church and the group marched into the building on August 3, 1962.

“And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things?” Romans 10:1

Rev. Tommie D. Robinson, Sr., became Pastor in 1980 and served faithfully and diligently for 18 years until he prayerfully submitted his resignation in April of 1998.

Pastor C. L. Robinson
